MINUTES OF THE INFORMAL MEETING OF THE JOHNSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS:

MARCH 8, 2006

Chairperson Lehman called the Johnson County Board of Supervisors to order in the Johnson County Administration Building at 11:14 a.m.  Members present were: Pat Harney, Mike Lehman, Sally Stutsman, and Rod Sullivan; absent: Terrence Neuzil.

DISCUSSION: INTERNAL PROCESSES, EXPECTATIONS, KEY ISSUES, AND OTHER OPERATIONAL ISSUES OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OFFICE

R. Sullivan said that if the Board can identify the most important issues, then that’s where their energy needs to go.  He said that in the past they would discuss what their key issues were, but wouldn’t take regular action on them.  He said they have done a better job on that this year.  Lehman agreed that it shouldn’t just be a monthly get together where these issues are discussed.  He said that it is important to be in touch with each other and with those who are working on the key issues.  R. Sullivan said that it is good that these issues become public.  Executive Assistant Mike Sullivan said that when the Board deals with projects and processes that are large scale, there seems to be these dead points where there is not a lot going on, but at some point in time the Board really will have to be involved in it, for example, when the construction of the jail begins.

R. Sullivan there is nothing that comes up at regular meetings to address.  M. Sullivan said that this is why subcommittees are setting timelines.  Stutsman asked how big the Health and Human Services Building will be.  M. Sullivan said that it is proposed as 60,000 square feet.  Lehman asked if it would be three floors.  M. Sullivan said that it depends on the size of the footprint.  R. Sullivan asked how much of the 60,000 feet was spoken for.  M. Sullivan said that about 48,000 was already spoken for.  He said that a lot of what they are going to move over there are the smaller divisions in the County.  There had been some talk about Information Services going over there, but that would take up a significant amount of space.  He said that everybody wants to be in a new building.
