johnson county historical society REPRESENTATIVE SHANER mAGELHAES: letter of support for grant application

Johnson County Historical Society Member Shaner Magelhaes brought the issue of a letter of support for grant writing to the Board of Supervisors.  Magelhaes said that one of their primary goals was to represent Johnson County as much as they can by preserving the history and reaching out to the community at large.  He said that they're a small staff and they're applying for an Iowa Community Cultural Event through the Department of Cultural Affairs.  He said that if successful they will hire a full-time position called a Community and Special Events Coordinator.  One of their primary responsibilities will be to go out to the community and work with local history groups and people interested in preserving history.  He said that one of the things that will help in the grant application is having letters of support from key groups such as the Board of Supervisors.  He asked that the Board of Supervisors consider writing a letter of support.  Magelhaes said that they were asking for verbal/written support.  R. Sullivan said that they would recess the informal agenda.

      Recessed at 9:34 a.m.; reconvened at 9:43 a.m.
