MINUTES OF THE INFORMAL MEETING OF THE JOHNSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS:
DECEMBER 30, 2008
Chairperson Sullivan called the Johnson County Board of Supervisors to order in the Johnson County Administration Building at 8:30 a.m. Members present were: Pat Harney, Larry Meyers, Terrence Neuzil, Sally Stutsman, and Rod Sullivan.
County Attorney Janet Lyness said she will swear in the re-elected members of the Board of Supervisors. Lyness said being a public servant and an elected official carries with it a great burden but also a great honor. It is an honor that the citizenry, friends, relatives, acquaintances, and all those who live in Johnson County, have been willing to put their faith and trust in elected Board members and County officials to represent them well at the County level. It is a burden because it is a job that doesn't go away, there are not easy decisions, there are difficult times, and difficult challenges. Yet at the same time, to serve and show this much care for the people in the community is one of the greatest honors. Lyness said it is a great honor to serve with the Board members and elected officials because she respects them, she admires them, and she really appreciates the work and the efforts they are willing to put in to being a public servant and a member of the Johnson County Board of Supervisors. Lyness said she is very happy to be here to swear in the newly elected for their next term in office.
Lyness read the following qualification of officer, State of Iowa, Johnson County, and asked Harney to repeat after her: "I, Pat Harney, do solemnly affirm that I will support the Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution of the State of Iowa, and that I will faithfully and impartially, to the best of my ability, discharge the duties of the office of County Supervisor in Johnson County, as now or hereafter required by law."
Harney said, "I, Pat Harney, do solemnly affirm that I will support the Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution of the State of Iowa, and that I will faithfully and impartially, to the best of my ability, discharge the duties of the office of County Supervisor in Johnson County, as now or hereafter required by law." Lyness congratulated Harney.
Lyness read the following qualification of officer, State of Iowa, Johnson County, and asked R. Sullivan to repeat after her: "I, Rod Sullivan, do solemnly affirm that I will support the Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution of the State of Iowa, and that I will faithfully and impartially, to the best of my ability, discharge the duties of the office of County Supervisor in Johnson County, as now or hereafter required by law."
R. Sullivan said, "I, Rod Sullivan, do solemnly affirm that I will support the Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution of the State of Iowa, and that I will faithfully and impartially, to the best of my ability, discharge the duties of the office of County Supervisor in Johnson County, as now or hereafter required by law." Lyness congratulated R. Sullivan.
Lyness read the following qualification of officer, State of Iowa, Johnson County, and asked Neuzil to repeat after her: "I, Terrence Neuzil, do solemnly affirm that I will support the Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution of the State of Iowa, and that I will faithfully and impartially, to the best of my ability, discharge the duties of the office of County Supervisor in Johnson County, as now or hereafter required by law."
Neuzil said, "I, Terrence Neuzil, do solemnly affirm that I will support the Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution of the State of Iowa, and that I will faithfully and impartially, to the best of my ability, discharge the duties of the office of County Supervisor in Johnson County, as now or hereafter required by law." Lyness congratulated Neuzil.
Lyness read the following qualification of officer, State of Iowa, Johnson County, and asked Slockett to repeat after her: "I, Tom Slockett, do solemnly affirm that I will support the Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution of the State of Iowa, and that I will faithfully and impartially, to the best of my ability, discharge the duties of the office of County Auditor in Johnson County, as now or hereafter required by law."
Slockett said, "I, Tom Slockett, do solemnly affirm that I will support the Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution of the State of Iowa, and that I will faithfully and impartially, to the best of my ability, discharge the duties of County Auditor in Johnson County, as now or hereafter required by law." Lyness congratulated Slockett.
Lyness noted that the oath of office forms will need to be signed and notarized.
