MINUTES OF THE FORMAL MEETING OF THE JOHNSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS:
MAY 28, 2009
Chairperson Neuzil called the Johnson County Board of Supervisors to order in the Johnson County Administration Building at 9:00 a.m. Members present were: Pat Harney, Terrence Neuzil, Sally Stutsman; absent: Larry Meyers and Rod Sullivan.
Unless otherwise noted, all actions were taken by the following vote: Roll call: aye: Harney, Stutsman, Neuzil; absent: Meyers, Sullivan.
Motion by Stutsman, second by Harney, to approve the claims on the Auditor’s Claim Register, as approved by a majority of the Supervisors.
Motion by Stutsman, second by Harney, to approve the minutes of the formal meeting of May 21, 2009.
Motion by Harney, second by Stutsman, to approve the payroll authorizations submitted by department heads, as approved by a majority of the Supervisors.
RESOLUTION 05-28-09-Z1
Whereas, pursuant to Iowa Code Section 331.302(11) (2009), the Johnson County Board of Supervisors may adopt by reference the provisions of a statewide or nationally recognized standard code, or portions thereof, by Ordinance after appropriate notice and hearing as set out in Iowa Code Section 331.302(9); and
Whereas, the Johnson County Board of Appeals, on May 18, 2009, met and approved a recommendation that the Board of Supervisors adopt, by reference, the 2008 National Electrical Code, including Annex H, and proposed local amendments thereto; and
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Johnson County Board of Supervisors that:
1. A public hearing on whether to adopt, by reference, the 2008 National Electrical Code and proposed local amendments is set for the 11th day of June, 2009 at 5:30 P.M. in the Board Room, Johnson County Administration Building, 913 South Dubuque Street, Iowa City, Iowa.
2. The Johnson County Auditor is hereby authorized to publish the official notice of above public hearing in a manner consistent with Iowa Code Sections 331.302(9) and 331.305.
Motion by Stutsman, second by Harney, to approve Resolution 05-28-09-Z1.
Motion by Stutsman, second by Harney, to approve and authorize the Chairperson to sign the Sheriff’s contract for the provision of law enforcement services to the town of Swisher.
Motion by Harney, second by Stutsman, to reappoint Hyman Joseph and David Steen to the Compensation Board for a term ending June 30, 2013.
Motion by Stutsman, second by Harney, to reappoint Larry Meister representing residents of Johnson County At-Large, Dr. Kathleen Buckwalter representing the University of Iowa, Elizabeth Selk representing the Heritage Area Agency on Aging, Reverend Bob Welsh representing the Johnson County Task Force on Aging, and Linda Kopping representing the Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center to the Livable Community for Successful Aging Policy Board for a term ending June 30, 2012.
Motion by Harney, second by Stutsman, to reappoint Mary Sue Bowers representing the Department of Natural Resources or Corps of Engineers, Bruce Ahrens representing the Farm Community, and Roger Goedken representing the Private Sector Including Community Interest Groups to the Johnson County Integrated Roadside Vegetation Management Committee for a term ending June 30, 2012, and to appoint Jarrett Pfrimmer representing the University of Iowa or a State Regents Institution/Academy of Sciences to the Johnson County Integrated Roadside Vegetation Management Committee for a term ending June 30, 2010.
Motion by Stutsman, second by Harney, to approve and authorize the Chairperson to sign an Application for Fireworks Permit for Joe Rasmussen, 4098 180thStreet, NE, Solon, on July 4, 2009.
