MINUTES OF THE CANVASS OF THE JOHNSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS:

SEPTEMBER 11, 2009

 

      Chairperson Neuzil called to order the Johnson County Board of Supervisors at 2:00 p.m. to act as a canvass board to certify the results of the School Board Election of September 8, 2009.  Members present were: Pat Harney, Terrence Neuzil, Sally Stutsman, and Rod Sullivan; absent: Larry Meyers.

 

      Unless otherwise noted, all actions were taken by the following vote: Roll call: aye: Harney, Stutsman, Neuzil, Sullivan; absent: Meyers.

 

ABSTRACT OF VOTES

 

      FOR THE OFFICE OF Clear Creek Amana Commmunity School District Board of Directors At Large (ONE to be elected) there were six hundred seventeen (617) votes cast as follows: Barbara Kounkel received one hundred ninety (190) votes, Aimee Pitlick received four hundred twelve (412) votes, and Scattering received fifteen (15) votes. 

 

      We therefore declare Aimee Pitlick duly elected for the office of Clear Creek Amana Community School Board Director At Large for the term of 4 years.

 

      FOR THE OFFICE OF Clear Creek Amana Commmunity School District Board of Directors District 2 (ONE to be elected) there were six hundred forty-one (641) votes cast as follows: Eileen Schmidt received three hundred seventy-six (376) votes, Kathy Zimmerman received two hundred sixty (260) votes, and Scattering received five (5) votes. 

 

      We therefore declare Eileen Schmidt duly elected for the office of Clear Creek Amana Community School Board Director District 2 for the term of 4 years.

 

      FOR THE OFFICE OF Clear Creek Amana Commmunity School District Board of Directors District 4 (ONE to be elected) there were two hundred fifty-two (252) votes cast as follows: Courtney Heller received twenty (20) votes, Mick Kahler received two hundred four (204) votes, and Scattering received twenty-eight (28) votes.

 

      We therefore declare Mick Kahler duly elected for the office of Clear Creek Amana Community School District Board Director District 4 for the term of 4 years.

 

      FOR THE OFFICE OF Iowa City Commmunity School District Board of Directors At Large (THREE to be elected) there were eleven thousand four hundred eighty-five (11,485) votes cast as follows: April Armstrong received one thousand one hundred seventy-one (1,171) votes, Michael R. Cooper received two thousand sixty-seven (2,067) votes, Tuyet Dorau received two thousand one hundred ninety-nine (2,199) votes, Anne M. Johnson received one thousand seven hundred ninety-four (1,794) votes, Jean Jordison received one thousand six hundred eighty-eight (1,688) votes, Joshua B. Kaine received eighty-five (85) votes, Jeffrey A. Manthey received fifty-eight (58) votes, Sarah Swisher received two thousand three hundred ninety-five (2,395) votes, and Scattering received twenty-eight (28) votes. 

 

      We therefore declare Michael R. Cooper, Tuyet Dorau, and Sarah Swisher duly elected for the office of Iowa City Community School District Board Director At Large for the term of 4 years.

 

      FOR THE OFFICE OF Director of District 3, Merged Area X, Kirkwood Community College (ONE to be elected) there were eight hundred four (804) votes cast as follows: Lois Bartelme received seven hundred eighty-four (784) votes, and Scattering received twenty (20) votes. 

 

      FOR THE OFFICE OF Lone Tree Community School District Board of Directors (THREE to be elected) there were two hundred eighty-seven (287) votes cast as follows: Gary N. Feldman received eighty (80) votes, James Loan received (88) votes, Randy Rayner received (82) votes, Tim Lorack received thirty-four (34) write-in votes, and Scattering received (3) votes. 

 

      We therefore declare Gary N. Feldman, James Loan, and Randy Rayner duly elected for the office of Lone Tree Community School District Board Director for the term of 4 years. 

 

      FOR THE OFFICE OF Solon Community School District Board of Directors (THREE to be elected) there were one thousand four hundred thirty-three (1,433) votes cast as follows: David Asprey received three hundred sixty-five (365) votes, Gene D. Lawson received two hundred eighty-seven (287) votes, Dick Schwab received four hundred fifty-five (455) votes, Lianne Westcot received three hundred two (302) votes, and Scattering received twenty-four votes.

 

      We therefore declare David Asprey, Dick Schwab, and Lianne Westcot elected for the office of Solon Community School District Board of Director for the term of 4 years. 

 

      FOR THE PUBLIC MEASURE BB to authorize the Board of Trustees of Merged Area X (Kirkwood Community College) to continue to levy a tax not to exceed twenty and one-fourth cents per thousand dollars of assessed value in any one year for a period not to exceed 10 consecutive years commencing with the levy for the year 2011 there were four thousand eight hundred thirty-two (4,832) votes cast total.  For the question three thousand four hundred eight (3,408) votes were cast, and one thousand four hundred twenty-four (1,424) votes were cast against the question. 

 

      Motion by Stutsman, second by Sullivan,to approve the results of the School Board Election of September 8, 2009.  Roll call: aye: Harney, Stutsman, Neuzil, Sullivan; absent: Meyers.
