MINUTES OF THE CANVASS OF THE JOHNSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS:
NOVEMBER 9, 2009
Chairperson Neuzil called to order the Johnson County Board of Supervisors in Room 203C of the Health and Human Services Building at 2:13 p.m. to act as a canvass board to certify the results of the City Election of November 3, 2009. Members present were: Pat Harney, Terrence Neuzil, Janelle Rettig, and Rod Sullivan; absent: Sally Stutsman.
Unless otherwise noted, all actions were taken by the following vote: Roll call: aye: Harney, Neuzil, Sullivan, Rettig: absent: Stutsman.
ABSTRACT OF VOTES
FOR THE OFFICE OF Coralville Mayor (ONE to be elected) there were one thousand seventy-two (1,072) votes cast as follows: Jim Fausett received nine hundred seventy-seven (977) votes; and scattering received ninety-five (95) votes. We therefore declare Jim Fausett duly elected for the office of Coralville Mayor for the term of 2 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Coralville City Council (THREE to be elected) there were three thousand three hundred thirty-one (3,331) votes cast as follows: John A. Lundell received seven hundred ninety-two (792) votes; Bill Hoeft received six hundred seventy-nine (679) votes; Thomas J. Gill received six hundred thirty-nine (639) votes; Henry C. Herwig received five hundred eighty-seven (587) votes; Laurie Goodrich received four hundred twenty-eight (428) votes; Chad Chase received one hundred eighty-four (184) votes; and scattering received twenty-two (22) votes. We therefore declare John A. Lundell duly elected for the office of Coralville City Council for the term of 4 years, Bill Hoeft duly elected for the office of Coralville City Council for the term of 4 years, and Thomas J. Gill duly elected for the office of Coralville City Council for the term of 4 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Hills Mayor (ONE to be elected) there were ninety-seven (97) votes cast as follows: Russell J. Bailey received eighty-four (84) votes; and scattering received twenty-two (22) votes. We therefore declare Russell J. Bailey duly elected for the office of Hills Mayor for the term of 2 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Hills City Council (TWO to be elected) there were two hundred fourteen (214) votes cast as follows: Tim Kemp received eighty-four (84) votes; Thomas Kirkpatrick received seventy-nine (79) votes; Deanna E Emerson received twenty-eight (28) votes; Rachel M. Ramirez received twenty-three (23) votes; and scattering received zero (0) votes. We therefore declare Tim Kemp duly elected for the office of Hills City Council for the term of 4 years, and Thomas Kirkpatrick duly elected for the office of Hills City Council for the term of 4 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Iowa City Council At-large (TWO to be elected) there were eight thousand six hundred seventeen (8,617) votes: Susan Mims received three thousand five hundred thirty-two (3,532) votes; Terry Dickens received three thousand two hundred seventy-four (3,274) votes; Jeff Shipley received eight hundred thirty-one (831) votes; Dan Tallon received seven hundred forty-three (743) votes; and scattering received two hundred thirty-seven (237) votes. We therefore declare Susan Mims duly elected for the office of Iowa City Council At-large for the term of 4 years, and Terry Dickens duly elected for the office of Iowa City Council At-large for the term of 4 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Iowa City Council District B (ONE to be elected) there were four thousand three hundred twenty (4,320) votes cast as follows: Connie Champion received two thousand two hundred twenty-two (2,222) votes; Mark McCallum received two thousand fifty (2,050) votes; and scattering received forty-eight (48) votes. We therefore declare Connie Champion duly elected for the office of Iowa City Council District B for the term of 4 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Lone Tree Mayor (ONE to be elected) there were one hundred thirty-eight (138) votes cast as follows: Rick L. Ogren received one hundred twenty-nine (129) votes; and scattering received nine (9) votes. We therefore declare Rick L. Ogren duly elected for the office of Lone Tree Mayor for the term of 2 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Lone Tree City Council (THREE to be elected) there were three hundred ninety-eight (398) votes cast as follows: Carl Kice Brown received one hundred seventeen (117) votes; E. Helen Lemley received ninety-four (94) votes; Alysa Coppinger received eighty-eight (88) votes; Todd Hayes received seventy-six (76) votes; and scattering received twenty-three (23) votes. We therefore declare Carl Kice Brown duly elected for the office of Lone Tree City Council for the term of 4 years, Alysa Coppinger duly elected for the office of Lone Tree City Council for the term of 4 years, and E. Helen Lemley duly elected for the office of Lone Tree City Council for the term of 4 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF North Liberty Mayor (ONE to be elected) there were four hundred seventy-one (471) votes cast as follows: Thomas A. Salm received four hundred forty-four (444) votes; and scattering received twenty-seven (27) votes. We therefore declare Thomas A. Salm duly elected for the office of North Liberty Mayor for the term of 4 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF North Liberty City Council (TWO to be elected) there were nine hundred sixty-three (963) votes cast as follows: Gerry Kuhl received three hundred forty-nine (349) votes; Brian Wayson received two hundred eighty-two (282) votes; David J. Grex received two hundred six (206) votes; Jonathan W. Waller received one hundred twelve (112) votes; and scattering received fourteen (14) votes. We therefore declare Gerry Kuhl duly elected for the office of North Liberty City Council for the term of 4 years, and Brian Wayson duly elected for the office of North Liberty City Council for the term of 4 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Oxford Mayor (ONE to be elected) there were forty-nine (49) votes cast as follows: Donald H. Saxton received forty-one (41) votes; and scattering received eight (8) votes. We therefore declare Donald H. Saxton duly elected for the office of Oxford Mayor for the term of 2 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Oxford City Council (TWO to be elected) there were ninety (90) votes cast as follows: Bryan S. Cooling received forty-six (46) votes; Darrell W Ealy received forty-one (41) votes; and scattering received three (3) votes. We therefore declare Bryan S. Cooling duly elected for the office of Oxford City Council for the term of 4 years, and Darrell W Ealy duly elected for the office of Oxford City Council for the term of 4 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Shueyville Mayor (ONE to be elected) there were twenty-two (22) votes cast as follows: Bryan S. Bredman received twenty (20) votes; Dave Larson received two (2) write-in votes; and scattering received zero (0) votes. We therefore declare Bryan S. Bredman duly elected for the office of Shueyville Mayor for the term of 2 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Shueyville City Council (FIVE to be elected) there were ninety (90) votes cast as follows: Jerry Cada received twenty-two (22) votes; Mickey Coonfare received nineteen (19) votes; Steve Kass received nineteen (19) votes; Jennifer Winter received nineteen (19) votes; Larry Ilg received seven (7) write-in votes; Dave Larson received two (2) write-in votes; and scattering received two (2) votes. We therefore declare Jerry Cada duly elected for the office of Shueyville City Council for the term of 4 years, Steve Kass duly elected for the office of Shueyville City Council for the term of 4 years as determined by lot according to Chapter 50.44 of the Code of Iowa, as amended, Mickey Coonfare duly elected for the office of Shueyville City Council for the term of 2 years, Larry Ilg duly elected for the office of Shueyville City Council for the term of 2 years, and Jennifer Winter duly elected for the office of Shueyville City Council for the term of 2 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Solon City Council (THREE to be elected) there were one hundred thirty-five (135) votes cast as follows: Cami Jo Rasmussen received forty-five (45) votes; Steve Stange received forty-three (43) votes; Brad Randall received forty-one (41) votes; and scattering received six (6) votes. We therefore declare Brad Randall duly elected for the office of Solon City Council for the term of 4 years, Cami Jo Rasmussen duly elected for the office of Solon City Council for the term of 4 years, and Steve Stange duly elected for the office of Solon City Council for the term of 4 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Swisher City Council (TWO to be elected) there were eighty-eight (88) votes cast as follows: Angie Hinrichs received forty-one (41) votes; Larry A. Svec received forty (40) votes; and scattering received seven (7) votes. We therefore declare Angie Hinrichs duly elected for the office of Swisher City Council for the term of 4 years, and Larry A. Svec duly elected for the office of Swisher City Council for the term of 4 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Tiffin Mayor (ONE to be elected) there were one hundred six (106) votes cast as follows: Royce W. Phillips received ninety-six (96) votes; and scattering received ten (10) votes. We therefore declare Royce W. Phillips duly elected for the office of Tiffin Mayor for the term of 2 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Tiffin City Council (THREE to be elected) there were two hundred eighty-three (283) votes cast as follows: James Bartels received eighty (80) votes; Christopher J. Ball received seventy-four (74) votes; Travis Weipert received fifty-five (55) votes; Michael K. Ritchie received forty-one (41) votes; Brian M Benest received twenty-nine (29) votes; and scattering received four (4) votes. We therefore declare Christopher J. Ball duly elected for the office of Tiffin City Council for the term of 4 years, James Bartels duly elected for the office of Tiffin City Council for the term of 4 years, and Travis Weipert duly elected for the office of Tiffin City Council for the term of 4 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF University Heights Mayor (ONE to be elected) there were four hundred two (402) votes cast as follows: Louise From received two hundred seventeen (217) votes; Alan R. Leff received one hundred eighty-four (184) votes; and scattering received one (1) vote. We therefore declare Lousie From duly elected for the office of University Heights Mayor for the term of 2 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF University Heights City Council (FIVE to be elected) there were one thousand nine hundred fifteen (1,915) votes cast as follows: Michael Haverkamp received two hundred seventeen (217) votes; Patricia Yeggy received two hundred thirteen (213) votes; Stan Laverman received two hundred six (206) votes; Amy Moore received two hundred six (206) votes; Brennan McGrath received one hundred ninety-four (194) votes; Andrew Dudler received one hundred ninety-two (192) votes; Larry T. Wilson received one hundred ninety-two (192) votes; David Giese received one hundred eighty-one (181) votes; Zlatko Anguelov received one hundred sixty-eight (168) votes; David Pedersen received one hundred forty-five (145) votes; and scattering received one (1) vote. We therefore declare Michael Haverkamp duly elected for the office of University Heights City Council for the term of 2 years, Stan Laverman duly elected for the office of University Heights City Council for the term of 2 years, Brennan McGrath duly elected for the office of University Heights City Council for the term of 2 years, Amy Moore duly elected for the office of University Heights City Council for the term of 2 years, and Patricia Yeggy duly elected for the office of University Heights City Council for the term of 2 years.
Motion by Sullivan, second by Harney, to approve the results of the City Election of November 3, 2009. Roll call: aye: Harney, Neuzil, Sullivan, Rettig; absent: Stutsman.
