Minutes of meeting of JC BOS/BOH Joint meeting of 1-11-10

Meeting called to order at 9:00 a.m.  Board of Supervisors chair Sally Stutsman asked Public Health Director, Doug Beardsley, to conduct the meeting.

Attendance:

            Board of Supervisors: Neuzil, Stutsman, Sullivan, Harney, Rettig

            Board of Health: Paul Deaton, Maureen McCue

            Public Health Staff: Doug Beardsley, Becky Mills, Tricia Kitzmann, James Lacina, Nadine Fisher, Annette Scheib, Chuck Dufano, Katie Miller, Erica Wagner.

            Other County Staff: Rick Dvorak, Planning and Zoning; Dana Winkowitsch, HR; Jean Schultz, IT;

            Others in attendance: Graham Dameron, Iowa Counties Public Health Association; Chris Atchison, University Hygienic Laboratory and U of I College of Public Health; Shannon Wagner, MECCA; Sandy Pickup, IC Free Medical Clinic; Stephanie Holley, UIHC;  Janan Wunsch-Smith, Janan Wunsch-Smith & Associates; Gerd Clabough, Janan Wunsch-Smith & Associates.

Director Beardsley welcomed those in attendance.  The purpose of the meeting was to provide an update on a grant awarded to the Johnson County Board of Health to conduct an in-depth assessment of their preparedness for the public health accreditation process.  The project consultants from Janan Wunsch-Smith & Associates used the balance of the time to present background on the public health modernization movement in Iowa and the current status of the public health accreditation process.  The expectations of the grant were reviewed and objectives for Johnson County Public Health were discussed.  The consultants, staff and some guests, familiar with the processes mentioned above, answered questions from those in attendance.  Copies of the presentation are available in the offices of JCPH.

There were no other comments or inquiries from the public.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:50 a.m.
