MINUTES OF THE FORMAL MEETING OF THE JOHNSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS:
JANUARY 27, 2011
Chairperson Harney called the Johnson County Board of Supervisors to order in the Johnson County Administration Building at 9:02 a.m. Members present were: Pat Harney, Janelle Rettig, and Rod Sullivan; absent: Terrence Neuzil and Sally Stutsman.
Unless otherwise noted, all actions were taken by the following vote: Roll call: aye: Harney, Rettig, Sullivan; absent: Neuzil, Stutsman.
PROCLAMATION 01-27-11-01
EITC AWARENESS DAY
JANUARY 28, 2011
Whereas, the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) could put up to $5,666.00 in to the pockets of eligible taxpayers; and
Whereas, four of five eligible people claim and get their EITC. See if you qualify at www.irs.gov; and
Whereas, people move into and out of EITC eligibility based on changes in their earnings, their parental status or their marital status. Many people will qualify for the first time this year due to economic changes in their incomes; and
Whereas, EITC is a financial boost for working people hit by hard economic times; and
Whereas, the Johnson County “You Earned It. Now Claim It!” offers the IRS VITA program, providing Free Tax Preparation at locations in Iowa City, Coralville and North Liberty for households earning less than $49,000.00 in 2010; and
Whereas, last year “You Earned It. Now Claim It!” program assisted over 1,000 tax filers who received a total of $1.8 million in federal and state tax refunds; and
Whereas, Johnson County encourages anyone who earned $48,362.00 or less from wages, self-employment or farming in 2010 to see if they qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit. Eligible workers can get their EITC only if they file federal income tax returns – even if they are not otherwise required to file – and specifically claim the credit; and
Now, Therefore, be it resolved that we, the Johnson County Board of Supervisors, do hereby proclaim Friday, January 28, 2011 to be:

in Johnson County and urge those who are eligible to claim this credit.
Motion by Rettig, second by Sullivan, to approve Proclamation 01-27-11-01.
Motion by Sullivan, second by Rettig, to approve the claims on the Auditor’s Claim Register, as approved by a majority of the Supervisors.
Motion by Rettig, second by Sullivan, to approve the minutes of the formal meeting of January 20, 2011.
Motion by Sullivan, second by Rettig, to approve the payroll authorizations submitted by department heads, as approved by a majority of the Supervisors.
Motion by Rettig, second by Sullivan, to approve the 2011 County Farm Lease Agreement with JCS Family Farms, 4680 Taft Avenue SE, Iowa City, Iowa 52240, for $35,500.00 cash rent.
Motion by Sullivan, second by Rettig, to approve Marcus B. Nashelsky, M.D. and Dennis J. Firchau, M.D. as Deputy Medical Examiners.
Motion by Sullivan, second by Rettig, to appoint Tom Brase to the East Central Iowa Council of Governments ISTEA Policy Committee.
