MINUTES OF THE CANVASS OF THE JOHNSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS:

NOVEMBER 13, 2001

Chairperson Lehman called to order the Johnson County Board of Supervisors at 9:10 a.m. to act as a canvass board to certify the results of the City Council Election of November 13, 2001. Members present were: Pat Harney, Mike Lehman, Terrence Neuzil, Sally Stutsman, and Carol Thompson.

ABSTRACT OF VOTES

FOR THE OFFICE OF Coralville Mayor there were nine hundred forty-seven (947) votes cast as follows: Jim Fausett received eight hundred ninety-six (896) votes and Scattering received fifty-one (51) votes.

We therefore declare Jim Fausett duly elected to the office of Mayor, for the term of 2 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Coralville City Council Member (THREE to be elected) there were two thousand seven hundred eighty-nine (2,789) votes cast as follows: Bob Bream received six hundred fourteen (614) votes, Thomas J. Gill received six hundred eighty-two (682) votes, Henry C. Herwig received seven hundred forty-four (744), Dave Jacoby received seven hundred thirty-two (732) and Scattering received seventeen (17) votes.

We therefore declare Thomas J. Gill, Henry C. Herwig and Dave Jacoby duly elected to the office of Council Member, for the term of 4 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Hills Mayor there were thirty-five (35) votes cast as follows: Cathy Fitzmaurice-Hill recieved thirty-three (33) votes, Leroy Thomas received one (1) vote and Chapy received one (1) vote.

We therefore declare Cathy Fitzmaurice-Hill duly elected to the office of Mayor, for the term of 2 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Hills City Council Member (TWO to be elected) there were seventy (70) votes cast as follows: Tim D. Kemp received thirty-three (33) votes, Thomas D. Kirkpatrick received thirty-four (34) votes and Scattering received three (3) votes.

We therefore declare Tim D. Kemp and Thomas D. Kirkpatrick duly elected to the office of Council Member, for the term of 4 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Iowa City Council Member District B there were ten thousand three hundred twenty-six (10,326) votes cast as follows: Connie Champion received six thousand twenty-one (6,021) votes, Brandon Ross received four thousand two hundred fifty-seven (4,257) votes and Scattering received forty-eight (48) votes.

We therefore declare Connie Champion duly elected to the office of Council Member District B, for the term of 4 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Iowa City Council Member At Large (TWO to be elected) there were nineteen thousand seven hundred seventeen (19,717) votes cast as follows: Leah J. Cohen received four thousand eight hundred two (4,802) votes, Ernie Lehman received six thousand two hundred five (6,205) votes, Mike O’Donnell received four thousand eight hundred sixty (4,860) votes, John Robertson received three thousand seven hundred eighty-two (3,782) votes and Scattering received sixty-eight (68) votes.

We therefore declare Ernie Lehman and Mike O’Donnell duly elected to the offices of Council Member At Large, for the term of 4 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Lone Tree Mayor there were one hundred ninety-five (195) votes cast as follows: Brian Coppinger received fifty-eight (58) votes, Bill Crawford received ten (10) votes, Joanne Havel received ninety-six (96) votes, Todd Hayes received four (4) votes, Wilbur Huff received eleven (11) votes and Scattering received sixteen (16) votes.

We therefore declare Joanne Havel duly elected to the office of Mayor, for the term of 2 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Lone Tree City Council Member (THREE to be elected) there were five hundred eighty-six (586) votes cast as follows: Carl Kice Brown received one hundred seventy-eight (178) votes, Jeff Lihs received one hundred seventy-two (172) votes, Leslie W. Schaapveld received one hundred sixty-four (164) votes, Dennis Chabel received sixteen (16) votes, Todd Hayes received twenty-four (24) votes and Scattering received thirty-two (32) votes.

We therefore declare Carl Kice Brown, Jeff Lihs and Leslie W. Schaapveld duly elected to the offices of Council Member, for the term of 4 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Lone Tree City Council Member – To Fill A Vacancy (TWO to be elected) there were two hundred ninety-three (293) votes cast as follows: Melinda Wieland received one hundred eighty-five (185) votes, Dennis Chabel received twenty-eight (28) votes, Todd Hayes received fifty-two (52) votes and Scattering received twenty-eight (28) votes.

We therefore declare Melinda Wieland and Todd Hayes duly elected to the offices of Council Member, for the remaining 26 month vacant term.

FOR THE OFFICE OF North Liberty City Mayor there were seven hundred seventy-five (775) votes cast as follows: Ron Bandy received three hundred five (305) votes , Clair Mekota received four hundred sixty-four (464) votes and Scattering received six (6) votes.

We therefore declare Clair Mekota duly elected to the office of Mayor, for the term of 4 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF North Liberty City Council Member (TWO to be elected) there were one thousand five hundred seven (1,507) votes cast as follows: Steve Anderson received two hundred sixty-six (266) votes, Rob Gardiner received three hundred fifteen (315) votes, Mart Hutt received forty-two (42) votes, Jerome Kasper received two hundred forty-nine (249) votes, James S. Moody received sixty-four (64) votes, Thomas A. Salm received two hundred thirty-four (234) votes, John J. Soukup received three hundred thirty-four (334) votes, and Scattering received three (3) votes.

We therefore declare Rob Gardiner and John J. Soukup duly elected to the offices of Council Member, for the term of 4 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Oxford City Mayor there were one hundred twenty-eight (128) votes cast as follows: Donald H. Saxton received one hundred fourteen (114) votes, Peter Feldstein received eight (8) votes, Tim Hennes received four (4) votes and Scattering received two (2) votes.

We therefore declare Donald H. Saxton duly elected to the office of Mayor, for the term of 2 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Oxford City Council Member (TWO to be elected) there were two hundred sixty-one (261) votes cast as follows: Lynn D. Crow received one hudnred ten (110) votes, Darrell W. Ealy received seventy-seven (77) votes, Therese M. Schebler received seventy (70) votes and Scattering received four (4) votes.

We therefore declare Lynn D. Crow and Darrell W. Ealy duly elected to the offices of Council Member, for the term of 4 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Shueyville Mayor there were thirty-five (35) votes cast as follows: Patrick M. Murphy received thirty-five (35) votes and Scattering received zero (0) votes.

We therefore declare Patrick M. Murphy duly elected to the office of Mayor, for the term of 2 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Shueyville City Council Member (FIVE to be elected) there were one hundred sixty-three (163) votes cast as follows: Thomas L. Carver received twenty-nine (29) votes, Mark Cross received twenty-seven (27) votes, Rick K. DeClue received twenty-five (25) votes, Daniel Johnson received seventeen (17) votes, Rodger A. Neuhaus received thirty (30) votes, Peter A. Phillips received thirty-one (31) votes and Scattering received four (4) votes.

We therefore declare Thomas L. Carver, Mark Cross, Rick K. DeClue, Rodger A. Neuhaus and Peter A. Phillips duly elected to the offices of Council Member, for the term of 2 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Solon Mayor – To Fill A Vacancy there were two hundred sixty-one (261) votes cast as follows: Rick Jedlicka received two hundred five (205) votes, Dustin McAtee received fifty-five (55) votes and Scattering received one (1) vote.

We therefore declare Rick Jedlicka duly elected to the office of Mayor, for the remaing 26 month vacant term.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Solon City Council Member (THREE to be elected) there were seven hundred thirty-three (733) votes cast as follows: James Brumwell received one hundred eighty-nine (189) votes, Mark A. Krall received two hundred eight (208) votes, Jerry L. McAtee Sr. received one hundred sixteen (116) votes, Scott J. Shulista received two hundred thirteen (213) votes, and Scattering received seven (7) votes.

We therefore declare James Brumwell, Mark Krall and Scott J. Shulista duly elected to the offices of Council Member, for the term of 4 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Swisher Mayor there were one hundred fifty-nine (159) votes cast as follows: Scott Grabe received one hundred fifty-three (153) votes, and Scattering received six (6) votes.

We therefore declare Scott Grabe duly elected to the office of Mayor, for the term of 2 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Swisher City Council Member (FIVE to be elected) there were seven hundred sixty-four (764) votes cast as follows: Kenneth J. Feldmann received one hundred seven (107) votes, Jack Hall received seventy-six (76) votes, Barb Hoss received eighty-two (82), Paul A. Reed received one hundred twenty-eight (128) votes, Ann Richmond received eighty-seven (87) votes, Tina Richmond received ninety-two (92) votes, Kathy Riggle received eighty-five (85) votes, Ginny Svec received one hundred four (104) votes and Scattering received four (4) votes.

We therefore declare Kenneth J. Feldmann, Paul A. Reed, Ann Richmond, Tina Richmond and Ginny Svec duly elected to the offices of Council Member, for the term of 2 years.

Upon the public measure (B)

Shall the terms of office for city councilmembers and mayor of Swisher, Iowa be changed from two years to four years in order to provide staggered terms?

there were one hundred fifty-five (155) votes cast, as follows:

FOR the question there were ninety-three (93) votes cast.

AGAINST the question there were sixty-two (62) votes cast.

We therefore declare the public measure (B) Shall the terms of office for city councilmembers and mayor of Swisher, Iowa be changed from two years to four years in order to provide staggered terms? to be adopted.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Tiffin Mayor there were sixty-eight (68) votes cast as follows: Glenn R. Potter received sixty-four (64) votes, Jim Bartels received two (2) votes and Scattering received two (2) votes.

We therefore declare Glenn R. Potter duly elected to the office of Mayor, for the term of 2 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Tiffin City Council Member (THREE to be elected) there were two hundred two (202) votes cast as follows: James Bartels received sixty-four (64) votes, David R. Shaffer received sixty-eight (68) votes, Rodney L. Walls received sixty-four (64) votes and Scattered were six (6) votes.

We therefore declare James Bartels, David R. Shaffer and Rodney L. Walls duly elected to the offices of Council Member, for the term of 4 years.

Upon the public measure (B)

Shall the City Council of Tiffin levy a sum of 10 cents per $1,000 on the taxable value of real porperty of Tiffin for the purpose of increasing the annual operating budget of the Springmier Community Public Library?

there were seventy-three (73) votes cast, as follows:

FOR the question there were fifty-one (51) votes cast.

AGAINST the question there were twenty-two (22) votes cast.

We therefore declare the public measure (B) Shall the City Council of Tiffin levy a sum of 10 cents per $1,000 on the taxable value of real porperty of Tiffin for the purpose of increasing the annual operating budget of the Springmier Community Public Library? to be adopted.

FOR THE OFFICE OF University Heights Mayor there were one hundred seventy-seven (177) votes cast as follows: Gloria N. Jacobson received one hundred seventy-two (172) votes and Scattered were five (5) votes.

We therefore declare Gloria N. Jacobson duly elected to the office of Mayor, for the term of 2 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF University Heights City Council Member (FIVE to be elected) there were eight hundred twenty-two (822) votes cast as follows: Louise A. From received one hundred fifty-six (156) votes, William W. Gay received one hundred sixty (160) votes, Martin L. Jones received one hundred thirty-eight (138) votes, Richard Martin received sixty-nine (69) votes, Adrian Schoenmaker received one hundred thirty-nine (139) votes, David G. Wood received one hundred fifty-eight (158) votes and Scattered were two (2) votes.

We therefore declare Louise A. From, William W. Gay, Martin L. Jones, Adrian Schoenmaker and David G. Wood duly elected to the offices of Council Member, for the term of 2 years.

Motion by Thompson, second by Neuzil,to approve the results of the City Election of November 6, 2001. Roll call: aye: Neuzil, Stutsman, Lehman, Thompson, Harney.
