MINUTES OF THE CANVASS OF THE JOHNSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS:
SEPTEMBER 12, 2003
Chairperson Harney called to order the Johnson County Board of Supervisors at 9:07 a.m. to act as a canvass board to certify the results of the School Board Election of September 9, 2003. Members present were: Pat Harney, Terrence Neuzil, and Sally Stutsman; absent: Mike Lehman and Carol Thompson.
ABSTRACT OF VOTES
For the Office of Clear Creek Amana Community School Board of Directors District 4 (ONE to be elected) there were two hundred sixty-six (266) votes cast as follows:
Sherrie Curry received eight (8) votes, Jim Seelman received two hundred twenty-five (225) votes and Scattering received thirty-two (32) votes.
We therefore declare Jim Seelman duly elected to the office of School Board Director District 4, for the term of 3 years.
For the Office of Clear Creek Amana Community School Board of Directors at Large (ONE to be elected) there were eighty (80) votes cast as follows:
Sherrie Curry received seven (7) votes, Dannisha Foster received six (6) votes, David Gott received four (4) votes, Vickie Hergert received two (2) votes, Dan Schaapveld received thirty-four (34) votes, Marvin Smith received two (2) votes, Pam Wagner received three (3) votes and Scattering received twenty-two (22) votes.
We therefore declare Dan Schaapveld duly elected to the office of School Board Director At Large, for the term of 3 years.
Upon the public measure (B)
Shall the Board of Directors of the Clear Creek Amana Community School District annually levy a tax, that shall not exceed thirteen and one-half cents ($.135) per thousand dollars of assessed valuation, for the public educational and recreational activities as authorized by Iowa law?
there were three hundred thirty-eight (338) votes cast, as follows:
FOR the question there were one hundred fifty-nine (159) votes cast.
AGAINST the question there were one hundred seventy-nine (179) votes cast.
We therefore declare the public measure (B)
Shall the Board of Directors of the Clear Creek Amana Community School District annually levy a tax, that shall not exceed thirteen and one-half cents ($.135) per thousand dollars of assessed valuation, for the public educational and recreational activities as authorized by Iowa law?
not to be adopted.
Upon the public measure (A) For the purpose of purchasing instructional equipment, the Board of Trustees of Kirkwood Community College (Merged Area X) is authorized to continue to levy a tax on taxable property within the Merged Area for each of the ten consecutive years commencing with the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2005, which tax shall not exceed six (6) cents per thousand dollars of assessed valuation in any one year, pursuant to Section 260C.28, Code of Iowa, 2003.
there were three thousand seven hundred fifty-one (3,751) votes cast, as follows:
FOR the question there were two thousand eight hundred sixteen (2,816) votes cast.
AGAINST the question there were nine hundred thirty-five (935) votes cast.
For the Office of Lone Tree Community School Board of Directors (ONE to be elected) there were thirty-three (33) votes cast as follows:
James Lively received thirty-three (33) votes.
We therefore declare James Lively duly elected to the office of School Board of Directors, for the term of 3 years.
For the Office of Iowa City Community School Board of Directors (TWO to be elected) there were six thousand three hundred twenty-nine (6329) votes cast as follows:
Janet Leff received two thousand one hundred four (2,104) votes, Randall Rogers received seven hundred forty-three (743) votes, Mary Vasey received one thousand five hundred thirty-six (1,536) votes, Pete Wallace received one thousand nine hundred twenty-five (1,925), and Scattering received twenty-one (21) votes.
We therefore declare Janet Leff, and Pete Wallace duly elected to the offices of School Board of Directors, for the term of 3 years.
For the Office of Solon Community School Board of Directors (TWO to be elected) there were one thousand one hundred twenty-nine (1,129) votes cast as follows:
Lois J. Geist received two hundred forty-five (245) votes, Michael Gleason received one hundred eighty-three (183) votes, Don Otto received one hundred fifty (150) votes, Benet J. Pardini received two hundred ninety-eight (298) votes, and Patrick Smith received two hundred fifty-three (253) votes.
We therefore declare Benet J. Pardini and Patrick Smith duly elected to the office of School Board of Directors, for the term of 3 years.
Motion by Stutsman, second by Neuzil, to approve the results of the School Board Election of September 9, 2003. Roll call: aye: Neuzil, Stutsman, Harney: absent: Lehman, Thompson.
