MINUTES OF THE CANVASS OF THE JOHNSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS:

SEPTEMBER 11, 1998

Chairperson Bolkcom called to order the Johnson County Board of Supervisors at 9:01 a.m. to act as a canvass board to certify the results of the School Election of September 8, 1998. Members present were: Joseph Bolkcom, Charles Duffy, Jonathan Jordahl, and Sally Stutsman; absent: Stephen Lacina.

ABSTRACT OF VOTES

FOR THE OFFICE OF Clear Creek Amana Community School Board of Directors District 1 (ONE to be elected) there were one hundred forty-one (141) votes cast as follows: Dixie Trout received one hundred thirty-six (136) votes and Scattering received five (5) votes.

We therefore declare Dixie Trout duly elected to the office of School Board Director District 1, for the term of 3 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Clear Creek Amana Community School Board of Directors At Large (ONE to be elected) there were one hundred fifty (150) votes cast as follows: Linda Schreiber received one hundred thirty-seven (137) votes, and Scattering received thirteen (13) votes.

We therefore declare Linda Schreiber duly elected to the office of School Board Director At Large, for the term of 3 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Iowa City Community School Board of Directors (TWO to be elected) there were seven thousand nine hundred forty-two (7,942) votes cast as follows: Jim Allen received one thousand three hundred seventy-eight (1,378) votes, Ernie Galer received nine hundred ninety-nine (999) votes, Matthew Goodlaxson received one thousand five hundred fifty-nine (1,559) votes, Nick Johnson received two thousand six hundred ninety-five (2,695) votes, Tom Thrams received one thousand two hundred ninety-nine (1,299) votes and Scattering received twelve (12) votes.

We therefore declare Matthew Goodlaxson and Nick Johnson duly elected to the offices of School Board of Directors, for the term of 3 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Kirkwood Community College, Merged Area X Board of Directors District 2 (ONE to be elected) there were one thousand two hundred eight (1,208) votes cast as follows: Robert A. Davidson received one thousand one hundred eighty-nine (1,189) votes and Scattering received nineteen (19) votes.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Kirkwood Community College, Merged Area X Board of Directors District 3 (ONE to be elected) there were seven hundred seventy-five (775) votes cast as follows: Lois A. Bartelme received seven hundred sixty-six (766) votes and Scattering received nine (9) votes.

Upon the public measure (A)

SUMMARY: To authorize the Board of Directors of Merged Area X (Kirkwood Community College) to continue to levy a tax of not to exceed twenty and one-fourth cents per thousand dollars of assessed value in any one year for a period of not to exceed 10 consecutive years commencing with the levy for the year 2001.

Shall the Board of Directors of Merged Area X (Kirkwood Community College) be authorized to continue to levy a tax of not to exceed twenty and one-fourth cents per thousand dollars of assessed value in any one year for a period not to exceed ten consecutive years, commencing with the levy for the year 2001, payable in fiscal years ending June 30, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 for the purchase of grounds, construction of buildings, payment of debts contracted for the construction of buildings, purchase of buildings and equipment for buildings, and the acquisition of libraries, for the purpose of paying costs of utilities, and for the purpose of maintaining, remodeling, improving, or expanding the area community college of the merged area.

there were three thousand six hundred seventy-eight (3,678) votes cast, as follows:

FOR the question there were two thousand seven hundred seventy-six (2,776) votes cast.

AGAINST the question there were nine hundred two (902) votes cast.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Lone Tree Community School Board of Directors (TWO to be elected) there were three hundred fifty-six (356) votes cast as follows: Thomas C. Hotz received one hundred twenty-six (126) votes, Sally Robbins received eighty (80) votes, James Sladek received one hundred five (105) votes, Jeff Van Slyke received forty-four (44) votes and Scattering received one (1) vote.

We therefore declare Thomas C. Hotz and James Sladek duly elected to the offices of School Board of Directors, for the term of 3 years.

FOR THE OFFICE OF Solon Community School Board of Directors (TWO to be elected) there were six hundred sixty-nine (669) votes cast as follows: George Crosheck received eighty-two (82) votes, Jim Martinek received two hundred fifty-six (256) votes, Cindy Menefee received ninety-three (93) votes, Joel C. Miller received two hundred thirty-eight (238) votes, and there were no Scatterings.

We therefore declare Jim Martinek and Joel C. Miller duly elected to the offices of School Board of Directors, for the term of 3 years.

Motion by Duffy, second by Stutsman, to approve the results of the School Election of September 8, 1998. Roll call: aye: Jordahl, Stutsman, Bolkcom, Duffy; absent: Lacina.
