REPORT LEHMAN: UPCOMING AG FESTIVAL
Jordahl: Invaluable parliamentary assistance from J. Patrick White, County Attorney. Reports and inquiries?
County Attorney J. Patrick White: I still have no report.
Jordahl: Nothing has developed in the interim? All right. Inquiries and reports from members of the public? We may want to kind of revisit this agenda item later if additional members of the public remain at the end of the formal meeting. Reports and inquiries from members of the Board of Supervisors. Mike?
Lehman: I just wanted to remind the public that this Saturday the 1999 Ag Fest will be held at the Johnson County 4H grounds from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30. Their theme this year is Ag safety, it's not just for farmers. It should be very entertaining and informative. There's no charge. There will be displays of agricultural products and there will be a lot of information provided. It should be very worthwhile for families, individuals and whoever can attend. It will be, the majority of it, inside so no matter what the weather will be it will be well worthwhile attending.
Jordahl: OK. Thanks Mike. Sally?
REPORT STUTSMAN: ATTENDED MEETING ON LINN COUNTY DETENTION CONTRACT
Stutsman: I just wanted to report to the Board that Carol, I, Pat, Brandon Beaudry, Ivan Vonk from Cedar Rapids, Peg Panghorn, Sue Novak, and Deb Minot from the County Attorney's Office, met to talk about the detention contract with Linn County. We came up with some preliminary agreements about what we want in the contract, so they are going to take those back to the Linn County Supervisors. We will let you know when it's time to sit down and talk further about that. We may put that on for a joint meeting with the Linn County Supervisors depending on where we go from here, so we'll keep you informed. Carol, do you have anything to add on that point?
Jordahl: All right. Carol, how about reporting on your own?
Thompson: Do you want to talk about the Senior Center when it's your turn?
Jordahl: All right.
Thompson: OK. On Monday night I attended the Head-Start Advisory Committee and learned what their plans are for next year. Tuesday night was the Mental Health Center Board where we received a report from some students at the University of Iowa Health Care Administration Department, I think I have that right, who did a long range strategic planning study for the center and presented their results. That will become the basis for the Board's strategic planning for the next, probably, several years. Today at noon I attended the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Center meeting with Janet Lyness at which Sally was the featured speaker. She talked about housing in Johnson County.
Jordahl: Excellent. Mr. Duffy?
Duffy: No reports.
REPORT JORDAHL: ATTENDED MEETING ON SENIOR DINING FUNDING; UPCOMING AMBULANCE FAIR
Jordahl: No reports. Carol mentioned the Senior Center. She and I have been representing the Board in working on negotiating with the Heritage Agency on Aging to come up with an agreeable contract figure for Fiscal Year 2000. Copies of our response to Tom Miskimen's letter have been distributed to members of the Board. There's a meeting of the Budget Committee tomorrow morning that I will be attending up in Cedar Rapids to go further with that. If you have any comments or advice they'd certainly be welcome. Also on Sunday I want to remind everyone that our Ambulance Service is hosting an Emergency Medical Services Fair from 11:00 to in the morning on Sunday the 16th to 3:00 in the afternoon in the Wal-Mart parking lot off of Highway 1 west in Iowa City. There are going to be a lot of different things going on there. Activities for children and educational things for children and adults and quite a lot of involvement including, I understand, a couple of helicopter landings representing both the University Hospitals and the National Guard. We've got first responder units from everywhere. We've got the various law enforcement agencies, hazardous materials response team, it just goes on and on here. Emergency medical education service education at Kirkwood Community College. You'll have an opportunity to see demonstrations of CPR and also sign up for CPR classes. A teddy bear clinic. If there are any ill teddy bears out there they should be brought along. Mine's probably suffering from age related illnesses. Fingerprinting for children, and I think that's kind of a security as well as a fun thing. Get your hands dirty on purpose. Drawings and refreshments. Be there Sunday morning 11:00 to 3:00 in the afternoon. I guess that's about it for me. So we're still here at 10 minutes to 6:00. Carol, is there anything you'd like to add?
Administrative Assistant Carol Peters: Not at this time.
Jordahl: Well then, I think we're back at the point of recess, aren't we?
Stutsman: Uh-huh.
Jordahl: Yes, OK. We will recess the informal meeting.
Recessed at 5:51 p.m.; reconvened at 9:15 p.m.
Jordahl: Parliamentarily speaking, correctly return to the informal agenda that we were in earlier, and ask if there are any additional inquiries and reports from members of the public concerning other matters? Or from members of the Board? If not, then we will adjourn this meeting. Thank you all for your time.
Adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
Attest: Tom Slockett, Auditor
