MINUTES OF THE CANVASS OF THE JOHNSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS:

JULY 6, 1999

Vice-Chairperson Stutsman called to order the Johnson County Board of Supervisors at 1:04 p.m. to act as a canvass board to certify the results of the Special Election for the Special Constitutional Amendments and Board of Supervisors Election of June 29, 1999. Members present were: Charles Duffy, Mike Lehman, Sally Stutsman, and Carol Thompson; absent: Jonathan Jordahl.

Jordahl entered at 1:10 p.m.

ABSTRACT OF VOTES

FOR THE OFFICE OF County Board of Supervisor there were thirteen thousand eight hundred forty-eight (13,848) votes cast as follows:

Carol Thompson received eight thousand three hundred ten (8,310) votes, John S. Boardman received five thousand four hundred seventy-two (5,472) votes, and Scattered votes were sixty-six (66).

We therefore declare Carol Thompson duly elected to the office of County Board of Supervisor for the remaining 18 months of a vacated term.

On the question "SHALL THE FOLLOWING AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION BE ADOPTED?" Requires the Governor and Legislature to prepare and approve budgets for general fund expendtiures which are no more than 99% of estimated revenues and carryover funds. Only 95% of new revenues may be included in general fund expenditures.

Upon the question, there were fifteen thousand five hundred eleven (15,511) votes cast of which there were For the question, five thousand seven hundred nineteen (5,719) votes and Against the question, nine thousand seven hundred ninety-two (9,792) votes.

On the question "SHALL THE FOLLOWING AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION BE ADOPTED?" Requires approval by three-fifths (60%) of all members of both the Iowa House and Senate to increase state revenues through state corportate and personal income tax or state slaes and use taxes or establish a new state tax.

Upon the question, there were fifteen thousand five hundred thirty-nine (15,539) votes cast of which there were For the question, five thousand five hundres eighty-three (5,583) votes and Against the question, nine thouasand nine hundred fifty-six (9,956) votes.

Motion by Stutsman, second by Duffy, to approve the results of canvass of the Special Election for the Special Constitutional Amendments and Board of Supervisors Election of June 29, 1999. Roll call: aye: Lehman, Stutsman, Jordahl, Thompson, Duffy.
