MINUTES OF THE CANVASS OF THE JOHNSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS:
SEPTEMBER 17, 1999
Vice-Chairperson Stutsman called to order the Johnson County Board of Supervisors at 9:02 a.m. to act as a canvass board to certify the results of the School Board Election of September 14, 1999. Members present were: Charles Duffy, Mike Lehman, Sally Stutsman; absent: Jonathan Jordahl and Carol Thompson.
Thompson arrived at 9:04 a.m.
ABSTRACT OF VOTES
FOR THE OFFICE OF Clear Creek Amana Community School Board of Directors District 2 (ONE to be elected) there were four hundred fifty-two (452) votes cast as follows: Ann Wood received four hundred thirty-eight (438) votes and Scattering received fourteen (14) votes.
We therefore declare Ann Wood duly elected to the office of School Board Director District 2, for the term of 3 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Clear Creek Amana Community School Board of Directors District 3 (ONE to be elected) there were three hundred ninety-nine (399) votes cast as follows: Paul H. Rogers received three hundred ninety-four (394) votes and Scattering received five (5) votes.
We therefore declare Paul H. Rogers duly elected to the office of School Board Director District 3, for the term of 3 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Clear Creek Amana Community School Board of Directors At Large (ONE to be elected) there were four hundred forty-three (443) votes cast as follows: Sherri Pitkin received two hundred ninety-five (295) votes, Pat Burns received one hundred thirty-four (134) votes and Scattering received fourteen (14) votes.
We therefore declare Sherri Pitkin duly elected to the office of School Board Director At Large, for the term of 3 years.
Upon the Public Measure (A)
Shall the Board of Directors of the Clear Creek Amana Community School District in the Counties of Iowa and Johnson, State of Iowa, be authorized for a period of five (5) years to levy and impose a voter-approved physical plant and equipment tax not to exceed sixty-seven cents (67 cents) per one thousand dollars ($1,000) of assessed valuation of the taxable property within the school district, and be authorized annually, in combination as determined by the Board, to levy a physical plant and equipment property tax upon all the taxable property within the school district commencing with the levy of property taxes for collection in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2001, and to impose a physical plant and equipment income surtax not to exceed ten percent (10%) upon the state income tax of each individual income taxpayer resident in the school district on December 31 for each calendar year commencing with calendar year 2000 and each year thereafter to be used for all purposes permitted by law?

FOR the question there were one hundred seventy-five (175) votes cast.
AGAINST the question there were four hundred seventeen (417) votes cast.
We therefore declare the public measure (A)

FOR THE OFFICE OF Iowa City Community School Board of Directors (THREE to be elected) there were eleven thousand seven hundred twenty-two (11,722) votes cast as follows: Don Jackson received two thousand nine hundred ten (2,910) votes, Susan Mims received one thousand four hundred twenty-three (1,423) votes, Cindy Parsons received one thousand one hundred thirteen (1,113) votes, Lauren Reece received two thousand seven hundred thirty-eight (2,738) votes, Dale Shultz received one thousand seven hundred eighty-four (1,784), Tom Thrams received one thousand seven hundred thirty-six (1,736) votes and Scattering received eighteen (18) votes.
We therefore declare Don Jackson, Lauren Reece and Dale Shultz duly elected to the offices of School Board of Directors, for the term of 3 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Kirkwood Community College, Merged Area X Board of Directors District 4 (ONE to be elected) there were five hundred six (506) votes cast as follows: Karen Gorham received five hundred (500) votes and Scattering received six (6) votes.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Kirkwood Community College, Merged Area X Board of Directors District 5 (ONE to be elected) there were three hundred sixty-four (364) votes cast as follows: John L. Hall received three hundred fifty-six (356) votes and Scattering received eight (8) votes.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Lone Tree Community School Board of Directors (TWO to be elected) there were three hundred twenty (320) votes cast as follows: Sally Robbins received one hundred nineteen (119) votes, Carmen M. Swanson received one hundred seven (107) votes, Pat Watkinson received eighty-nine (89) votes and Scattering received five (5) votes.
We therefore declare Sally Robbins and Carmen M. Swanson duly elected to the offices of School Board of Directors, for the term of 3 years.
FOR THE OFFICE OF Solon Community School Board of Directors (ONE to be elected) there were three hundred seventeen (317) votes cast as follows: John W. McFarland received one hundred eleven (111) votes, Dick Schwab received two hundred six (206) votes, and Scattering received zero (0) votes.
We therefore declare Dick Schwab duly elected to the office of School Board of Directors, for the term of 3 years.
Motion by Lehman, second by Duffy, to approve the results of the School Board Election of September 14, 1999. Roll call: aye: Lehman, Stutsman, Thompson, Duffy; absent: Jordahl.
