Old and New Districts The legislators above were elected from districts established in 2001 ("old districts"). Three of the senators were elected to four year terms in 2010 that expire at the end of 2014. (Senator Hahn was elected to a four year term in 2008 that expires at the end of 2012.). All six of the representatives were elected to two year terms in 2010 that expire at the end of 2012. Legislators continue to represent their old districts through the end of their terms. Beginning with the 2012 primary, legislators will run in new districts established in 2011. All 100 House seats will be on the ballot for a two year term, and all even numbered senate seats will be on the ballot for a four year term (This includes Senator Hahn, but his new District does not include any part of Johnson County.) In addition, odd-numbered Senate seats where no senator lives, or where more than one incumbent is seeking re-election, may be on the ballot for a two year term. Odd numbered seats with only one senator will not be on the 2012 ballot, and Senators Bolkcom, Dvorsky and Greiner will continue to serve through the end of 2014. Because of redistricting, it is possible that you may be represented during the 2012 legislative session by legislators you will not be able to vote for or against in the 2012 election. It is up to you whether you wish to contact the legislator for your new district or your old District; you should feel free to contact any legislator on a state issue. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
