The filing period for the November 7 general election for candidates not representing the two qualified political parties is July 31-August 18 for presidential, congressional and legislative candidates.

Candidates nominated for federal or state office in the primary election may withdraw (in writing to the Iowa Secretary of State) until August 10.

The Iowa City Public Library maintains information on persons who have declared their candidacy for public office but have not yet filed affidavits of candidacy, or who have announced their intention to withdraw. Contact the information desk at 356-5200.
