September 14, 2004 School Election Candidates

• Filing deadline 5 p.m. Thursday, August 5.  File with school districts, not with our office.
• All terms three years.

Physical plant/equipment levy (50% yes required):

Shall the Board of Directors of the Iowa City Community School District in the County of Johnson, State of Iowa, be authorized for a period of ten (10) years, to levy annually, as determined by the Board, a voter-approved physical plant and equipment property tax not to exceed One Dollar and Thirty Four Cents ($1.34 cents) per One Thousand Dollars ($1,000) of the assessed valuation of the taxable property within the school district, commencing with the levy for collection in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006, to be used for the purchase and improvement of grounds; the construction of schoolhouses or buildings and opening roads to schoolhouses or buildings; the purchase of buildings and the purchase of equipment; the payment of debts contracted for the erection or construction of schoolhouses or buildings, not including interest on bonds; procuring or acquisition of libraries; repairing, remodeling, reconstructing, improving, or expanding the schoolhouses or buildings and additions to existing schoolhouses; expenditures for energy conservation; the rental of facilities under Chapter 28E; purchase of transportation equipment for transporting students; lease purchase option agreements for school buildings; equipment purchases authorized by law; or for any other purpose authorized by law?

Physical plant/equipment levy (50% yes required):

Shall the Board of Directors of the Clear Creek Amana Community School District in the Counties of Johnson and Iowa, State of Iowa, be authorized for a period of ten (10) years, to levy annually, as determined by the Board, a voter-approved physical plant and equipment property tax not to exceed sixty-seven (67) cents per one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) of the assessed valuation of the taxable property within the school district, and be authorized annually, in combination, as determined by the board, to levy a physical plant and equipment property tax upon all the taxable property within the school district commencing with the levy of property taxes for collection in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2006, and to impose a physical plant and equipment income surtax upon the state individual income tax of each individual income taxpayer resident in the district on December 31 for each calendar year commencing with the 2005 calendar year, or each year thereafter, (the percent of income surtax not to exceed twenty percent (20%) to be determined by the board each year), to be used for the purposes permitted by Iowa law?

District III consists of the portion of the Iowa City school district that lies in the following regular precincts: Newport, Coralville 1, 2, 4, 5 & 6 and Iowa City 3,4,5,11,15,18,19,20,21,22,23,24.

Upon filing nomination papers, all candidates complete an affidavit of candidacy form.  This includes a space for the candidate's phone number with the notation "Optional, will be published."  If no phone number is listed for a candidate on this web site, the candidate left the phone number space blank on the affidavit of candidacy.

The affidavit of candidacy form also includes a space for the candidate to list an e-mail address.  To e-mail a candidate, replace the AT in the address with the @ sign.  (The @ has been replaced with AT on this web site to block address harvesting software used by spammers.)

If no e-mail address is listed for a candidate, the candidate left the e-mail address space blank on the affidavit of candidacy.
