The cities of Iowa City, Shueyville and University Heights require primaries if enough candidates file.

• Iowa City Council At Large: Two seats.  Primary required if five or more candidates file.
• Iowa City District B: One seat.  Primary required if three or more candidates file.
• Shueyville and University Heights Mayor:  Primary required if three or more candidates file.
• Shueyville and University Heights Council:  Five seats.   Primary required if 11 or more candidates file.

Only Iowa City required a primary in 2005.

A city primary is not a partisan primary election and eligible voters may participate regardless of party affiliation.
