- Iowa City at large: Primary required if five or more candidates file.
Vote for no more than two; top four candidates advance to November 6
election.

- Iowa City district seats: Primary required if three or more candidates
file. Only one candidate filed for each district seat. These
candidates will appear on the November 6 ballot, but
not on the primary ballot.
- University Heights: No primary required.
All city voters may vote for two of the five candidates in the at large race. In the
November 6 election, all Iowa City voters may vote in the at
large and in the District A and C contests.

A city primary is not a partisan primary election and eligible voters may
participate regardless of party affiliation.
- The filing period for
Iowa City and University Heights was August 13-30.
- September 28, 5 p.m. - deadline to register to vote. (The
election day voter registration law
signed by the Governor on April 3 does not take effect until January 1, 2008.)
- October 5, 5 p.m. - deadline to request an
absentee ballot by mail. In-person early voting was available
until 6 p.m. the day before the election, October 8.

Upon filing nomination papers, all candidates complete an affidavit of
candidacy form. This includes spaces for the candidate's phone number
and email address with the notation "Optional, will be published." If no phone
number is listed for a candidate on this web site, the candidate left that
information off their affidavit of candidacy.
