September 9, 2008 School Election
Polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Iowa City, Clear Creek Amana,
Lone Tree and Solon districts. Vote at
school polling places.
Dates and deadlines:
- Friday, August 29: This will be Iowa's first school election with
same day voter registration.
However, voters registering after 5 p.m. Friday, August 29 must use
the election
day registration procedure.
Register To Vote
- Friday, September 5: 5 p.m. deadline to request absentee ballot by mail.
- Sunday, September 7: Satellite voting site at Iowa City Public Library,
noon to 5 p.m.
- Monday, September 8: Last day for early voting in person at
Auditor's Office, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This was Iowa's last regularly scheduled school election in an even
numbered year. Beginning in 2009, school elections will be held only in odd
numbered years, and terms will be four years.
Johnson County administers elections for the Iowa City district, the only one
located entirely within the county, and for three other districts located
primarily within the county - Clear Creek Amana, Lone Tree and Solon. Parts of
Johnson County are in eight other school districts. For more information on
elections in those districts, please contact the control
county.
