Ballot Issues

  •  Iowa Constitutional Amendment (50% required)

Section 5 of Article II of the constitution of the State of Iowa is repealed and the following adopted in lieu thereof:
Disqualified Persons. Sec. 5. A person adjudged mentally incompetent to vote or a person convicted of any infamous crime shall not be entitled to the privilege of an elector.

Explanation:
This amendment removes the words “idiot” and “insane” from the constitutional provision and substitutes the phrase “mentally incompetent to vote”.

  • Conservation Bond (60% required):

Shall the County of Johnson, State of Iowa, be authorized to acquire and develop lands with public access provided, to be managed by the Johnson County Conservation Board, in order to protect the water quality in rivers, lakes and streams; protect forests to improve air quality; protect natural areas and wildlife habitat from development, and provide for parks and trails, at a cost not exceeding $20,000,000 and issue its general obligation bonds in an amount not exceeding $20,000,000 for that purpose, to be repaid in not more than 20 years? All expenditures will be subject to an annual independent audit.

 About this list

The above list of candidates includes the winners of the June 3 primary. The filing period for the November 4 general election for candidates not representing the two official parties is August 4-27 for county candidates.  Ballot Access and Candidate Qualifications  The political parties may also nominate candidates by convention to fill ballot vacancies through August 27 (August 15 for federal and state offices).

Before August 4, the Johnson County Auditor's Office will accept a notice of intent to declare candidacy from candidates for county office only who do not represent the two official parties.

Note regarding candidate phone numbers

Upon filing nomination papers, all candidates complete an affidavit of candidacy form.  This includes a space for the candidate's phone number with the notation "Optional, will be published."  If no phone number is listed for a candidate on this web site, the candidate left the phone number space blank on the affidavit of candidacy.

Note regarding candidate e-mail addresses and web sites

The affidavit of candidacy form also includes a space for the candidate to list an e-mail address.  To e-mail a candidate, replace the italic AT in the address with the @ sign.  (The @ has been replaced with AT on this web site to block address harvesting software used by spammers.)

If no e-mail address is listed for a candidate, the candidate left the e-mail address space blank on the affidavit of candidacy.

If a name appears underlined, the name is a link to the campaign website.  Candidates whose names are not underlined do not have campaign web sites.  If you know of a website that is not listed for a candidate who has filed, please contact our office.
