Dates and deadlines:

• Friday, August 28: Traditional voter registration deadline, 5 p.m. 11 days before the election.  Voters could still register after this deadline using the election day registration procedure.  Register To Vote
• Friday, September 4: 5 p.m. deadline to request absentee ballot by mail.
• Saturday, September 5: Postmark deadline for absentee ballots to be counted (moved from Monday due to legal holiday)
• Monday, September 7: Labor Day holiday, the day before the election.

Kirkwood Ballot Issue (all districts, 50% required):

Summary: To authorize the Board of Trustees of Merged Area X (Kirkwood Community College) to continue to levy a tax of not to exceed twenty and one-fourth cents per thousand dollars of assessed value in any one year for a period of not to exceed 10 consecutive years commencing with the levy for the year 2011.

Shall the Board of Trustees of Merged Area X (Kirkwood Community College) be authorized to continue to levy a tax of not to exceed twenty and one-fourth cents per thousand dollars of assessed value in any one year for a period not to exceed ten consecutive years, commencing with the levy for the year 2011, payable in fiscal years ending June 30, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, for the purchase of grounds, construction of buildings and equipment for buildings, and the acquisition of libraries, for the purpose of paying costs of utilities, and for the purpose of maintaining, remodeling, improving, or expanding the area community college of merged area.”
 

Upon filing nomination papers, all candidates complete an affidavit of candidacy form.  This includes a space for the candidate's phone number with the notation "Optional, will be published."  If no phone number is listed for a candidate on this web site, the candidate left the phone number space blank on the affidavit of candidacy.

The affidavit of candidacy form also includes a space for the candidate to list an e-mail address.  To e-mail a candidate, replace the italic AT in the address with the @ sign.  (The @ has been replaced with AT on this web site to block address harvesting software used by spammers.)

If no e-mail address is listed for a candidate, the candidate left the e-mail address space blank on the affidavit of candidacy.

School Board Term Length

Thiswas the first school election where all terms were four years. Beginning this year, school elections will be held in odd-numbered years only. Through 2008, school elections were held every year. Terms were three years until 2007, and most terms in 2008 were also three years. (Clear Creek Amana elected the District 2 director to a one year term in 2008, to set up a cycle where two of the four district seats are on the ballot every two years.)

Terms for members elected to three year terms in 2007 were shortened or lengthened to accommodate the transition. Check individual school districts for details.
