November 3, 2009 City Election
November 6 mail delivery: one Coralville domestic mail ballot, one Iowa City
overseas ballot, both counted November 9. One Iowa City overseas ballot returned unvoted.
November 9: One University Heights domestic ballot returned and counted.
Provisional Ballots: 2 (one North Liberty, not counted. One Solon, counted.)
Polls open 7 a.m. (except Oxford, Shueyville: polls open at noon). All polls closed at 8 p.m. Vote at
regular precincts.
Guide to election returns
Dates and deadlines:
- August 10 - 27: Candidate filing period for Iowa City and University
Heights.
- August 24 - September 17: Candidate filing period for other cities. All
cities: file with city clerk (not at
our office).
- Tuesday, October 6: primary election, if required (Iowa City,
University Heights).
- Iowa City, at large: Primary required if five or more candidates file.
- Iowa City, District B: Primary required if three or more candidates
file.
- University Heights, mayor: Primary required if three or more candidates
file.
- University Heights, council: Primary required if 11 or more candidates
file.
- Friday, October 23: Traditional voter registration deadline, 5 p.m. 11
days before the election.
Voters may still register after this deadline but must use
the election
day registration procedure.
Register To Vote
- Friday, October 30: 5 p.m. deadline to request absentee ballot by mail.
- Monday, November 2: last day to vote early at auditor's office; postmark
deadline for mailed absentee ballots to be counted.
