Re: Bolkcom Board of Supervisors Seat
Dear Mr. Slockett:
I understand that a committee comprised of you, Kim Painter (County Recorder) and Tom Kriz (County Treasurer) is charged with the responsibility of appointing a person to complete Joe Bolkcom's remaining term on the Johnson County Board of Supervisors. The seat on the Board of Supervisors will become vacant when Joe takes his seat in the Iowa Senate next month.
The purpose of my letter is to recommend strongly that the committee consider Tom Carsner to fill Joe's unexpired term. Tom is a life-long Johnson County resident who is known to be reasonable, open-minded, and active in many aspects of life in Johnson County.
As a member of the Johnson County Board of Health, I have been impressed with Tom's understanding of very complex public health and environmental issues. He has attended numerous Board of Health meetings and always has valuable input, presented in a calm, considerate, and non-inflammatory manner.
Tom has also demonstrated a deep commitment to solving the critical land use policy issues facing the county. He assimilates information rapidly and considers alternatives carefully and unemotionally. He would, I believe, be an excellent consensus builder on the Board of Supervisors.
Finally, the choice of Tom Carsner to fill the unexpired term would maintain the perspective of the current Board of Supervisors and its focus on environmental issues, public health, and land use planning. He is clearly the best qualified candidate for the position.
I urge you to appoint Tom Carsner to fill Joe Bolkcom's term on the Board of Supervisors.
Respectfully,
Diane Edberg Joslyn
