To the Selection Committee,
Opening on Johnson County Board of Supervisors
Let me enter a few words in favor of the candidacy of Tom Carsner for the County Board.
Here's the candidate who showed his commitment by running in the last election, who has campaigned in the way that counts most, person-to-person with attention and caring for the different needs that concern our citizens, and for the different preferences that both unite and divide us.
I have watched Tom campaign in public meetings, in informal large groups, and in intimate conversations of three and four. We have talked over hard questions about allocating public resources, about competing interests of economic progress and ecological temperance, about the complexities of a Johnson County that holds important agriculture, tourism, industry, city and town cultures, education, family life, the arts and crafts, traditional freedoms and ever-changing demands for tolerance and respect.
What I find most distinguishing in Carsner's candidacy is the combination of caring and politics, a deep commitment to public and private institutions and lives.
Tom Carsner has the training in working with people, the experience to understand, and the wisdom and calm balance to make his judgments independently, firmly, and with clear explanations.
I urge you to consider him one of the best qualified of the many candidates before you, and personally I hope you may decide that the best reasons speak for selecting him to join the Board.
Sincerely yours,
Alan F. Nagel
