1 New Year's Day - County Holiday.
18 Martin Luther King Day - County Holiday.

JULY

5 Independence Day - County Holiday (observed)
6 SCHOOL - First day to apply for absentee ballot, 70 days before the election. [53.2]
12 SCHOOL - First day for candidates to file, 64 days before the election.  File with school board secretary.  Each petition must have at least 1% of the registered voters as of May 1, 1999 or 100 signatures, whichever is less. [277.4]

AUGUST

6 SCHOOL - Last day to receive notification of special election to be held on the same date as the regular election, 5:00 p.m. [47.6]
9 CITY - IOWA CITY, UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, SHUEYVILLE - First day for candidates to file. 85 days before the election. File with City Clerk. Each petition must have signatures equal to 2% of the number of voters in the last regular city election, but not less than 10 {for 1999, IC at-large - 184, IC Dist. A - 187, IC Dist. 10 SCHOOL - Last day to withdraw by filing signed statement 35 days before the election, 5:00 p.m. [277.4]
