Following completion of reprecincting, the Iowa Secretary of State’s
office suggested technical changes to the North Liberty ordinance
affecting two small areas of rural Johnson County.
North Liberty 1 and Clear Creek Township North
A small section of Clear Creek Township has been separated from the
rest of the township by North Liberty annexations. This section is
also described as part of House District 30 in the bill establishing
legislative districts, while the rest of Clear Creek is in House
District 29. For these reasons, the area cannot be in the Clear
Creek precinct. This area has been designated "Clear Creek
Township North" (CN). Clear Creek North cannot be combined with
Madison Township since Madison Township is in House District 29.
Thus Clear Creek North will be combined with North Liberty 1, the only
contiguous precinct in the same legislative district.
Clear Creek North has an official census population of zero (as of
the census date of April 1, 2000). Two voters are now registered
in the area.
North Liberty 2 and Penn West
A small section of Penn Township is completely surrounded by the city
of North Liberty. Since it is not contiguous with the rest of Penn
Township, it cannot vote with the rest of the Penn precinct and has been
designated "Penn West" (PW). Penn West (census
population 3, two registered voters) will be combined with North Liberty
2, the precinct that surrounds it.
