Ballot and Registration Problems Most early voting and registration problems can still be solved by casting an in-person ballot using Iowa's election day registration procedure. See below for specific information about your problem: The pre-registration deadline for the November 2 election was Saturday, October 23 at 5 p.m. If your form was not received in our office by that time, your registration is late. If you also requested a mailed absentee ballot, we were were not able to mail you a ballot. You can still register and vote in this election by providing proof of identity and residency. To prove identity, you must present a photo ID with an expiration date. Acceptable forms of identification include:
If the photo ID presented does not contain your current address in the precinct, you are required to present one of the following documents that include your name and current address in the precinct:
To register and vote, bring the above documents to the Auditor’s Office anytime between now and Monday, November 1st, 2010. Office hours are 8 am to 6 pm, Monday – Friday. You can also appear in person at the polling place for the precinct where you live on Election Day, Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010. The polls are open from 7 am to 9 pm. Do not vote on Election Day if you have voted previously in this election unless you are certain that the first ballot was legally voided. “Pending Registration” means our office was unable to verify your social security number. Your absentee ballot cannot be counted unless you provide information which allows us to make your registration “Active.” Before your ballot can be counted, you must provide a photocopy of a current and valid photo ID (such as an Iowa driver’s license or U.S. passport). If you do not have one, you may send a photocopy of a utility bill (including a cell phone bill), bank statement, paycheck, government check, or other government document showing your name and current address. Please return the required copies of document(s) to: Johnson County Auditor’s Office 913 S. Dubuque St. Iowa City, IA 52240 The photocopies of documents must either be postmarked before Election Day or received in our office before the polls close on Election Day. "Inactive registration" means a voter registration card was mailed to you and returned by the post office as undeliverable. Your absentee ballot cannot be counted until your registration is restored to “Active” status. In order to restore your registration to “Active” status, you must return a copy of one of the following forms of identification to the auditor’s office before 12:00 Noon on 11/4/2010.
1. Current and valid (unexpired) photo ID such
as a driver’s license, non-driver’s ID, U.S. passport, military ID, etc. 2. One of the following showing your name and current address:
