By Dave Wehde, JCCB Vegetation Specialist

The Johnson County Conservation Board would like to extend our highest appreciation to the volunteers that have participated with the woody invasive species removal and restoration at West Valley View Prairie.
Many hard-working volunteers have worked on this site, beginning with the April 21 JCCB Earth Day Prairie Rescue. An additional volunteer brush cutting event was held on June 7 and work was continued by members of Boy Scout Troop 211 June 20.

With the work of volunteers, the Boy Scouts of America and conservation staff, notable recovery has occurred at this site. The removal of much of the woody species from this relict prairie resulted in a striking bloom of pale purple coneflowers this summer.
