Eastern
Iowa Brass Band to Play at Kent Park!!
By Harry Graves, JCCB Director
Providing diverse programs for our diverse population
is an important aspect of service to the public
by the JCCB and staff. To that end, a variety of
programs are scheduled: hunter safety classes, birding
programs, wildlife habitat development workshops,
a Master Conservationist Program, Master Woodland
Manager training, and various other educational
programs and some events solely for your entertainment.
In the entertainment lineup, there is a special
treat planned for June 21 with the first-ever Kent
Park Band Concert featuring the Greater Eastern
Iowa Brass Band. The band was founded in 1985 and
is the only band of its kind in the state of Iowa.
In the fifteen years that it has been in existence,
it has won numerous awards at international competitions.
The band has performed at town festivals and artist
concert series across Iowa. Band members, who dress
in turn-of-the-century-style clothes which help
to recall the days when almost every town had their
own local band, are popular with audiences of all
ages. This dedicated group of musicians delight
spectators with their rousing performance in the
style and tradition of the British brass bands.
Only brass and percussion instruments are used.
None of the members receive any pay for performing
with the group. The play for pure enjoyment.
Bring your own lawn chairs and come to the Kent
Park Youth Group Camp Area on June 21, for a 7 p.m.
outdoor band concert you are sure to enjoy. Alcoholic
beverages are not allowed in the Youth Group Camp.
