would like to extend our appreciation to the many volunteers who participated with the Earth Day volunteer projects held at F.W. Kent Park. Both tree planting at the Conservation Education Center (CEC) and the Prairie Rescue at the West Valley View Prairie were a great success.

Photos of Tree Planting
More than 30 people joined in the tree planting which will provide enjoyment for generations to come.

The 71 newly-planted, large-canopy and under story trees along the woodland trail near the CEC will provide increased education opportunities, aesthetics and wildlife habitat for many years to come.

Removal of the invasive woody species at West Valley View Prairie was the first step in he restoration of this degraded prairie relict.

Hopefully with good management and time, we will have a new site to enjoy the beautiful prairie wildflowers, grasses and sedges that once covered the Johnson County landscape.

The Johnson County Conservation Board will be having a number of volunteer events throughout the year. These events are geared around habitat restoration, from seed collection of native species to removal of invasive species that threaten the integrity of natural areas.

If you are interested in helping with future events, please give us a call and find out more about becoming a member of our growing volunteer program. Your help is extremely important to us.
Once again we thank you for your commitment to conservation in Johnson county.
