Conservation Connection LogoHarry Graves - Executive Director

Hello! I am Harry Graves. I have been the Johnson County Conservation Board Director since January 2001. I am passionate about preserving, protecting and enhancing the natural environment and instilling those values in the mind of the public.

My conservatiPhoto of Harry Graveson career began in Leon, Iowa, where I became the Conservation Director of Decatur County in 1971 - a position I held for 11 years. I then moved on to be the Director of the Buchanan County Conservation Board from 1982 until my move to Johnson County in 2001.

My wife Ellie and I came to Johnson County because we though it was great opportunity to work in the most educated county in the state. Getting to know people and organizations, improving the county parks, securing a 42-acre addition to Kent Park, preparing next year's budget, and overseeing and expanding the environmental education program is keeping me very busy.

In my spare time I like to bike, read, write, watch old movies and enjoy nature.
