Conservation Education Center

Education Center Large

Education is an integral component of all of the conservation efforts. The Johnson County Conservation Board strives to provide the residents of Johnson County with quality conservation education programming and resources. The Conservation Education Center (CEC), located in F.W. Kent Park, serves as the foundation of this effort. The CEC provides space for programs, conservation related meetings and field trips. The CEC also serves as the office of the Johnson County Naturalist and is the home of numerous educational displays, including live animal exhibits, which help citizens better understand the natural and cultural resources of Johnson County. These educational exhibits allow visitors to take their newly acquired knowledge and apply it to one of the largest outdoor classrooms in the state, F.W. Kent Park. The Conservation Education Center is open to the general public from 1-4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Weekdays are reserved for field trips and other educational events. If you or your organization would like to schedule a field trip to F.W. Kent Park and the Conservation Education Center please contact Naturalist Sydney Algreen (e-mail: or Naturalist Kristen Morrow (e-mail: at (319) 645-1011.
