Board of Supervisors Passes Resolution of Commitment to Paris Climate Agreement

On June 8, 2017, one week after President Trump withdrew the United State of American from the landmark Paris Climate Agreement, the supervisors passed a resolution to show the County's unwavering support to help fight the climate change and protect Earth from risks of devastating consequences ensure security, prosperity and health. The leaders also agreed to have the County sign on to a statement of commitment at We Are Still In. A twitter handle @county4climate and #Counties4Climate are being used to help spread the word to other counties in particular

    Iowa Energy Center logo 

     

    Johnson County is participating in phase two of the Iowa Public Buildings Benchmarking Program, hosted by the Iowa Energy Center. The program helps governments track and manage energy use in public buildings, with the goal of cost-savings and reduced energy use.

     

     

     County Property Stormwater Plan

     

    The County's Soil and Water Conservation Specialist, Kate Giannini, in conjunction with the Secondary Roads Department, developed a stormwater management plan for County properties .

     


    Green Building Certification Program logo 

    The Green Building Certification Program for builders of single-family homes in unincorporated areas recognizes those who go "above-and-beyond" code compliance in building new homes that are energy efficient and feature sustainable construction practices.

    Our Employee Bike Share Program partnered with the Iowa City Bike Library to provide two renewed bicycles for staff.  Employees can use the bikes for work-related errands and appointments and to meet Wellness goals.


      Surplus Office Supply Illustration report covers  

    An internal, online Surplus Office Supply exchange program allows employees to easily share unused office supplies.

    Innovation signWe are exploring whether a solar energy system might be added to support the Health and Human Services Building or Administration Building. Solar panels were added in 2015 to the Secondary Roads campus.

    Energy Efficiency: In addition to participating in the Iowa Benchmarking Program, we are working with our local utility to ensure that building systems operate as efficiently as possible.
