Johnson County Armory & Veterans Memorial

Armory & Veterans Memorial

This new memorial, installed at the site of the old Armory (925 S Dubuque St, Iowa City), serves as a permanent place of honor for families, friends and community members to visit and reflect, and to remember those who bravely served our country.  The memorial was dedicated on Veterans Day; November 11, 2013.

Your tax-deductible contribution to the Johnson County Armory and Veterans Memorial Fund will help with the cost of construction as well as provide additional resources for memorial maintenance and future Johnson County veterans projects.

As shown above, the memorial includes the Armory’s original cornerstone, surrounded by stone crests of each branch of the military; reproductions of the concrete medallions from the Armory, depicting the crest of each unit stationed there at the time of construction; two interpretative panels with the Armory’s history in text and photographs; as well as a bench and stately flagpole.

At the base of the memorial are engraved paver bricks that can honor any veteran or supporter from any branch of service, from any time period, and from any county, or to show gratitude from a supporting business or family.

Bricks are available for a donation of $75.00, measure 4” x 8” and allow for a maximum of three engraved rows of text, 17 characters per row.  Space & symbols between names & dates count as a character.

Bricks make a great gift!

Donations are being accepted through the Community Foundation of Johnson County, 325 E Washington St., Iowa City, IA 52240.  If you have questions please contact Johnson County Veterans Affairs Director Gary Boseneiler at or 319-356-6049.
