The Iowa Food Code defines a mobile food unit as a food establishment that is readily
moveable, which either operates up to 3 consecutive days at one location or returns to
a home base of operation at the end of each day.
Specific criteria include an installed, pressurized hand-washing unit with hot and cold
water as described in the Iowa Food Code chapter 5 pages
119-121.
Is there a licensing fee for a mobile food unit?
The annual license fee is $27. The fee is the same for an initial license and for an
annual renewal. Licenses expire one year from the date of issuance. They are available
from Johnson County Public Health: 319-356-6040.
The license cannot be transferred to another person or operation at any time.
