Dog Animal Bite Reporting

Med Info: A resource for Johnson County Health Care Providors

Health care providers and law enforcement are responsible for animal bite reporting within Johnson County. Animal bites should be reported as soon as possible to the appropriate entity listed below.

Please use the Animal Bite Reporting Form Adobe Document when collecting information from the bite victim and/or animal owner. Click on the Iowa Rabies Exposure Assessment Tree Adobe Document for more information about animals susceptible to rabies, or click on Bat Exposures Adobe Document for specific information on bat exposures.

A Note for Health Care Providers:
Administering rabies prophylaxis is not necessary unless the
animal cannot be captured for observation or testing.
