Policies & Procedures for Sale of County Computer Equipment

These policies and procedures for the sale of computer equipment have been established to insure fair and equal treatment of all parties, both buyer and seller. These policies and procedures will be applied to all computer equipment offered for sale through Information Services.


1. Sale on all equipment is open to the public. It is not limited to Johnson County employees or employees of entities with ties to the county. All equipment for each sale will be posted on the Johnson County web site. An email will be sent to all county employees listed as users on the county email server notifying them of the sale and the county’s web site URL.

2. The price of each piece of equipment, including complete systems, is listed on the County Web site. Prices will not be negotiated at the sale location. Sale terms are cash or local check with ID.

3. The sale of equipment will take place in the north office of the Fisher Building at 800 S. Dubuque St, Iowa City. The sale will begin Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 9:00 AM and end at noon.

4. Information Services will not provide any technical support for equipment purchased. The equipment is sold without warranty of any kind. The buyer purchases the equipment “as is”. All computers will come with Windows 2000 or Windows XP installed and all drivers for the computer will be installed and working, unless otherwise noted on the machines. NetServers will not include operating system software.

5. Unless specifically listed as 'Parts Only' or noted as having a known defect int he 'notes' section, Information Services will not intentionally offer non-functioning equipment for sale.

6. All checks for purchase will be made out to “Johnson County Treasurer” and deposited in the appropriate county fund.

7. Any equipment not purchased will be offered at no cost to school districts and nonprofit agencies in Johnson County.

8. Due to space and safety concerns only five (5) people will be admitted into the building at any time. After each group of five (5) has left the next group of five (5) will be admitted.
