| Joint Federal Grant Application - May 2007 | |

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Iowa City Police Department is applying for the 2007 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant administered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, U.S. Department of Justice. The total amount eligible to receive for this jurisdiction is $69,599. The grant requires that each jurisdiction come to an agreement as to how the money is divided. Out of the total, the Sheriff and the Iowa City Police Chief have agreed to split the award with Iowa City Police Department receiving 52% of the funds, and will manage the grant, and Johnson County Sheriff receive 48%. The Iowa City Police Department will apply for the entire amount and upon completion of the draw down process, pass on to the Johnson County Sheriff their share, if fully funded, being $33,408.00. This grant does not require a local match and each jurisdiction is responsible for their own reporting requirements. The grant will be used to purchase law enforcement equipment/technology as follows: $33,408.00 Flashback Digital In-Car video cameras and upgrade technology & equipment for the patrol units. In accordance with the Justice Assistance Grant application, the application will be on file for review no less than 30 days. The public is invited to make comment on the intended expenditure, either through the Johnson County Board of Supervisors or the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. While the application will be submitted prior to July 2 deadline, it will not be considered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance until the 30 day review period has passed. |
