History of the Johnson County Consortium on Successful Aging

In 2003, interested members of the Johnson County community joined together to form the Johnson County Consortium on Successful Aging. The original members of this Consortium included:
   • Eve Casserly, Johnson County AARP
   • Sher Hawn, Johnson County Public Health
   • Beverly Jones, Consultation of Religious Communities
   • Brian Kaskie, University of Iowa College of Medicine Center on Aging
   • Jeude Landhauser, Heritage Area Agency on Aging
   • Mike McKay, Systems Unlimited
   • Suellen Novotny, Visiting Nurses Association
   • David Purdy, Elder Services, Inc.
   • Susan Rogusky, Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center
   • Rod Sullivan, Johnson County Board of Supervisors
   • Linda Severson, Johnson County Council of Governments
   • Bob Welsh, Johnson County Task Force on Aging

The purpose of the Consortium was to gather and disseminate information to support Johnson County as a community that supports successful aging. The Consortium worked diligently for two years to release a comprehensive market analysis in 2005. The market analysis of opportunities for successful aging in Johnson County could not have been completed without the kind support provided by the Heritage Area Agency on Aging, the Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center, Johnson County Public Health, the Johnson County Task Force on Aging, the University of Iowa College of Public Health, and the University of Iowa Center on Aging. The following individuals also provided help in creating the vision to guide the research, including Steve Atkins, Linda Kopping, Elizabeth Selk, Carol Thompson, Ralph Wilmoth, and Connie Benton-Wolfe.

One year later, in 2006, the Consortium on Successful Aging issued four follow-up reports to the 2005 Market Analysis. The Iowa Chapter of AARP provided financial support to produce these reports.
