House Rural Home Rehabilitation Program

This program offers forgivable loans of $5,000 to homeowners in rural Johnson County for most types of home repairs.

Bullet Program description: The Housing Trust Fund of Johnson County and the East Central Iowa Council of Governments, with the assistance of Hills Bank, have secured a grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines to assist rural homeowners with needed repairs.

Bullet Funds available: $5,000 per homeowner.

Bullet Form of award: Five year forgivable loans which are forgiven at a rate of 20% per year. There is a $17 processing fee.

Bullet Eligible applicants: If you live in a rural area of Johnson County or in a town of less than 2,500 people, own your home and meet the income requirements (listed below), you are eligible.


Bullet Eligible activities: This grant is available for most types of home repair work, including emergency repairs, exterior repairs and residential accessibility. Some samples of eligible projects include re-roofing and replacing windows.
