Iowa Commission of Veteran Affairs The Purpose of the Iowa Veteran's Home The purpose of the Iowa Veteran's Home is to provide professional care of the aging and chronically ill veteran, dependent spouses, and widowed spouses in an environment of friendliness, warmth, and understanding between residents and staff. The Home's motto, "Iowa forgets not the defenders of the Union," epitomizes the purpose of the home, which was founded in a spirit of responsibility to care for Iowa's sons and daughters who had made personal sacrifices in the military services and are now in need of assistance in their daily lives. Health Care Services The Iowa Veteran's Home provides a range of health care services:
A special care unit for people with Alzheimer's Disease is also available. An individualized care plan is developed with each resident. Medical, dental, nursing, dietary, social, psychological, recreation therapy, library, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, audiology, incentive therapy, pharmacy, laboratory/x-ray, respiratory care, substance abuse counseling, and all faiths religious serves, as well as prosthetic/orthotic and health care devices and necessary mediations are provided to residents with identified needs. The above noted services and supply needs are included in the cost of care. Eligibility Requirements
Cost of Care Eligible veterans, spouses and widowed spouses are admitted without regard to their financial status. The rate of payment is based on the actual cost of care and the individual's ability to pay using available resources. The Iowa Veteran's Home Lifestyle The Iowa Veteran's Home offers a lifestyle which encourages independence, provides comfort and security, meets individual needs and emphasizes personal choice. Residents of the Iowa Veteran's home have the convenience, freedom and comfort of a small community: a picnic shelter on the extensive park-like grounds, personal laundry facilities, a chapel, barber and beauty shops, garden areas and raised garden boxes, a canteen and a gift shop with crafts made by the residents. City bus service is available to and from the facility. For More Information...
