The Johnson County Public Health Department requires that any new development be issued a sewage (wastewater) permit. A building permit cannot be issued until approval for a sewage disposal system is received from the Health Department.
Applications may be completed at the County Health Department at 1105 Gilbert Court in Iowa City. The Health Department must then test the suitability of the parcel for waste treatment. Permit approval can take up to two weeks to complete.
