Social Services

The Johnson County Social Services Department is accepting grant applications from nonprofit agencies that can provide programming to increase access to permanent, supportive housing for area households with children. Experiencing homelessness, housing instability and poverty have been linked to causing adverse effects on young children’s health, development, and future school performance, as well as risks of permanent effects on the development of the brain leading to high levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. The program shall provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive, interdisciplinary services that effectively engage families with complex needs.

Johnson County may award up to $220,000 in funding to nonprofit, charitable organizations providing services to Johnson County residents. Grants will cover the period from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025. Successful projects will be eligible for subsequent years of funding pending the availability of funds. The grant application is located at the Johnson County website, www.johnsoncountyiowa.gov, under Bids, Proposals, RFPs

Applications are due by 4 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024. For more information contact Lynette Jacoby, Social Services Director, at [email protected] or 319-356-6090.
